One large rose bridal bouquet

Updated: Feb 7

This fairly new technique of gluing rose leaves was achieved after the introduction of cold glue. This once again proves that innovation of products and materials can lead to an extension of our creative possibilities.

Step 1

Elongate the handle of the bridy holder by attaching 5 to 6 1.5 wires to the stem, using tape. In order to create an evenly shaped handle, the part below the plastic holder has to be filled with - for instance – sisal. Wrap it with tape to create a smooth and tapering shape.

Step 2

The part around the plastic holder is also thickened with sisal so that the whole handle, up to the point where the oasis is set in the frame, is formed into a smooth shape. The whole is wrapped with paper tape so that a nice even shape is created.

Step 3

Wrap three 1.5 wires with paper tape, let 1 wire stick out at either sides. This protruding wire will serve as anchoring point for handle and holder.

Step 4

Bend the wire in a shape which nicely matches the pointy frame.

Step 5

Place a nice, pure, open rose in the middle of the holder.

Step 6

Select some more mature, open roses. Take the flower leaves from the stem by turning the bid from the stem, do not use any bruised or damaged flower leaves.

Step 7

Select some more mature, open roses. Take the flower leaves from the stem by turning the bid from the stem, do not use any bruised or damaged flower leaves.

Step 8

Wrap the handle with ribbon in a colour matching the colour composition of the bouquet. Cold glue or a glue pistol can be used to fixate the ribbon ends.

Step 9

Continue gluing the rose leaves and follow the shape of the created base. Applying leaves of a rose with a contrasting colour along the edge makes the piled effect more visible.

Step 10

If the leaves refuse to stick then you could use small crams which are inserted carefully through the leaves and into the holder. See to it that these aiding materials are not visible

Step 11

Cutting a small triangle from the base of the rose leaf, makes it possible to glue the flower leaves straight onto the base. Try to create a nice evenly shaped point at the end, this adds to the elegance of the total design.

Step 12

In order to break the severity of the design a number of split blades of lily grass are added to the bouquet. By processing downwards in a spiralwise manner the form a whole with the bouquet.
